The Trustee Board plays a vital role in the running of the Scout Group. The Trustee Board makes decisions and carries out administrative tasks to ensure that the best quality Scouting can be delivered to young people in the Group. The Trustee Board exists to support the Group Lead Volunteer in meeting the responsibilities of their appointment. Members of the Trustee Board must act collectively as charity trustees of the Scout Group, and in the best interests of its members. Charity Trustees

Scout Groups in England and Wales are considered charities by law. All members of the Group Trustee Board are charity trustees and therefore must be over 18. Trustee Board members are legally and financially responsible for the running of the Scout Group.

Financial year, annual report & AGM

The Group’s financial year runs from 1st January to 31st December, the Annual Report and financial accounts from that year are presented to the 96th Birmingham Scout Council at the AGM within 6 months of the end of the financial year.

Members of the Trustee Board

The Trustee Board is made up of two types of members:

• Ex-officio members have a role on the Committee due to their role in Scouting. This includes the Group Lead Volunteer.
• Appointed Members – stand for election at the Annual General Meeting.

All adults on Trustee Board are required to become members of the Scout Association and must be eligible for Charity Trustee status. All Executive members are required to have a DBS check and are required to complete (or have completed) the Scout’s Trustee Learning module.
